It’s Been a Long Time Awaiting is the self-produced debut album for vintage vocal pop quartet The Nymphs. Some might say it has been a long time awaiting, but we can assure you, it’s been well worth the wait!
Recorded by Henry Wagons, and featuring Henry himself on the final track, the album also includes 2013 single Shake and double A-side Who Will Come (recorded and produced by Steven Schram). With humble ‘porch’ style tunes, bombastic big band numbers, heartbreaking ballads and sassy swinging ditties, you'll have it on repeat all day. Complex arrangements, the use of vocal techniques to mimic the sounds of brass and string instruments, and stamps, claps and clicks for percussion, this album is entirely a cappella. The exception is final track Deep Storage, which features guitar and Henry Wagons as the unfortunate lover of a gin-soaked murderess.
The Nymphs are launching It’s Been a Long Time Awaiting in Brisbane at the Southside Tea Room, followed by a string of East Coast shows early in 2014 to be announced very soon!
After releasing their debut EP in 2010, The Nymphs have attracted acclaim as a versatile ensemble, and boosted their national profile with a television appearance on Spicks and Specks (2010). Since then they have appeared on The 2011 RocKwiz Christmas Special (SBS), 2012 Ladies Round episode of The Marngrook Footy Show (ABC) and again on the Marngrook Footy Show in 2013.
With a powerful vocal sound born in the bars of Melbourne, The Nymphs have reinvigorated the a cappella genre, entertaining audiences from the Corner Hotel to the Melbourne Recital Centre.
